Open Dictionary or Challenge?

I've been wrestling with this one for a while now. Should I add a challenge feature and allow you to choose if you want to challenge or play open dictionary at the beginning?

Here are some questions I have with adding a challenge feature...

  1. Should only the next person in line to take their turn be able to challenge or should you be able to challenge anyones turn for the past round?
  2. If only the next person, what if the person after them wanted to challenge cause they knew it wasn't a word, but now they don't have the chance?
  3. If you can challenge anyone from the past round, what happens when you have to remove words that have other words already built on them? Does the game basically rewind to the person who was challenged?

Let me get some feedback from you. How would you implement a challenge feature?

Re: Open Dictionary or Challenge?

I think the only fair way to handle a challenge would be to rewind the game back to the challenged word.............I don't care because I'll only be playing with one person at a time but I'm sure there are others out there that might.

Re: Open Dictionary or Challenge?
Seems like a nightmare. I play several computer versions of scrabble (hasbro) and haven't come up with one that has a challenge feature. They simply don't allow you to put in a word that isn't in the dictionary, so it's an instant challenge, in a way. No penalties.

I'm hoping to have a four way game going here soon, if I can get my kids on-line with this. I have no problem with the open dictionary, because if it isn't offered here I know they'll be heading off to the official scrabble site to use that one and/or using the scrabble dictionary I gave them. It's all for fun, imho.

Re: Open Dictionary or Challenge?

Well, I came from www.scrabulous.com (wich does not work any more since yesterday) and they were working with an open dictionary. In that case it doesn't mind were you are from. I am dutch and would love to play in dutch but can't. Would love to see that in the future.

Re: Open Dictionary or Challenge?

I only play one person at a time.  I would like to be able to challenge and have the dictionary disabled as in other Scrabble games.
